The PrimoTinA – asthma studies are two replicate double-blind clinical trials examining the benefits of adding inhaled tiotropium to standard asthma therapies in patients who have not achieved optimal control. Great review and discussion. I agree with the panelists that I will not be routinely recommending tiotropium for patients with just asthma and no COPD until there is more evidence. I did have one asthmatic patient with a tremor that worsened with any inhaled corticosteroid, so I may have considered tiotopium for her if I had known about this study at that time.
