The Problem

Picture yourself staffing a busy Family Medicine clinic. Two physicians are discussing a long-established, opioid-experienced patient who has chronic pain. They disclose to you the patient started using cannabidiol (CBD) oil and reports “relief for the first time in years.”  Your colleagues wonder if CBD oil is effective or whether this is just a placebo effect.  Perhaps CBD would be a useful adjunct for pain management?
